Week 2 Singing Objectives:

  • All warm up with soft panting, hissing and body movement exercises.
  • Humming in half scales (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) from low to as high as you can, gently.
  • All Ma, Me, Mi, Mo, Mu sustained notes followed by brash La-la-la-la-la.
Please all do the above five minutes a day. THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN AN HOUR OF BIG SING-SONGING!

Jo G - Also include resonance exercise ng, ng, ng oooh. Then some arpeggios to work on bridging that break from speaking to singing voice. Work on Stay, first very straight. Then start learning/ print sheet music for The Rose.

Jude - Work on controlling ng, ng, ng, ooooh (remember first opening 'oh' phrase, two beats straight, two beats with vibrato). Sing through arpeggios softly on a 'doh' shape focusing on fluency and clarity. Here add some sirening to your practise to relax higher register, I've included a YouTube video below. Listen to Run but do not sing it before your next singing lesson!

Jo L - Arpeggios, singing up and down over the break. Remember: quiet and resonant. Also include Ma, me, ma, me, ma, me, ma (1,2,3,2,1,2,3,2,1,2,3,2,1) then Vvvvvv, back to Ma. Practise those individual phrases of Movie in My Mind as vocalised Ah's or Oh's to check tuning and intonation before singing the words.

Simon - Sing through the recorded D Major scale in different sounds, ah, oh, ooh, eeee - focusing on yawning throat shape at the peak of the scale. Sing through Fields of Gold with greater emphasis placed on 'huh' shaped breathing.

Asia - Focus this week on breathing and the mouth shapes in the 'ma me mi mo mu' warm ups. You can also do this by singing A E I O U up and down scales. (Two fingers mouth width for vowels, one for ee). Listen to and work on fine tuning in Killing Me Softly.

Jenny J - Extra work on sustained hissing and using the 'huh' breathing in technique before singing to help you sustain your phrases. Rehearse the ng, ng, ng ooooh resonance exercise. Breakdown "Set Fire" into those tricky little licks, rehearsing them as seperates before linking them together. Listen to Paloma!

Thanks all,
I'll try and get on to recording these warm ups really soon. Super busy at the moment!
